As well as a new romantic interest developing, I attended "Big D's 2nd Annual Piece Hall Bike Show" at Halifax Piece Hall on Sunday. It all started at Macmillans biker bar, also known as Big D's, with everyone meeting at around 10am. When I arrived, the place was packed. There must have been close to 1000 bikes there, parked up both in the car park (completely filling it) and up and down the road. I must admit the scale of it, as well as not knowing where the car park entrance was, almost made me cause an accident, only spotting the entrance at the last second and turning in without indicating. Ooops! Had to appologise to the guy on the Sportster behind me for that one... After finding a mate of mine (Paul, owns an MT-01, nice ride :) ) and hanging around for a bit, the order came out for everyone to mount up. I think you can imagine what happened next. Close to a thousand bikes & trikes, mostly big-engined, mostly loud enough to anoy shift-working neighbours on their own, all being started within about 30 seconds of each other. You could feel them as much as hear them, and I was half surprised I saw no windows breaking or cracks appearing in the walls of afforementioned drinking establishment. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven (actually for the second of 3 occasions this weekend, but the others were of a rather different nature ). By this point, the organisers and the police bike escort had moved out onto the road, and the procession made its way off. During the next 30mins (it was only 5mins to the show, but we took a detour. I will attach a google map of the route if you want), I saw lots of people smiling at us & taking pictures as the mile-long (at a guess) snake wound its way up to Northowram, doubled back round the roundabout, and headed for the carpark where the entire ground floor had been given over for 2- and 3-wheelers only for the day. I also saw a large number of ppl in their cages gettting rather frustrated as the cops & organisers blocked off the junctions so we all got a clear run. Serves them right! The engine noise was almost as impressive in the carpark, even though people turned their motors off as they arrived. At this point I met up with my mate and my brothers bird, who told me I looked like the cat who got the cream. The event itself was also pretty cool. Great weather, loads of nice bikes, you know the drill, but it couldnt even come close to the ride out. I will post some pics & a video of everyone arriving at the car park when I get home tonight, as well as anything else I can think of.
