Spoiler: click to toggle [IMG] First stop - Ashhurst wind farm outlook carpak [IMG]http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/ashurstcarparkreadytogozm8.jpg/1/w1120.png All ready to hit the road again Time for a quick lunch stop - this is actually about 70km from Ashhurst Cheltenham pub built 1876 - as NZ wasnt settled by Europeans until quite late these sorts of buildings are the oldest we have generally [IMG] Taupo is direction I am heading [IMG] Just to give an idea of where I am going Arrived in Taihape - where I am staying the night mileage so far 332km [/URL First time the Yellow One has ever had to spend a night out in the rain [IMG] All ready to hit the road again [IMG] Going from Taihape to Napier the long way (on the map it is Taihape - Waiouru - Taupo then across to Napier) A rest area on the Desert Road. This area is the closest thing we have to a desert in this country. During winter this road is closed a fair bit because of snow - this does create chaos because it is State Highway 1 and the alternatives add huge amounts of time to the trip. This road runs between Waiouru and Turangi on the map [IMG] [IMG] You can see the road in the distance. It has reasonably long straights on it and Police patrols are numerous These are on the Taupo to Napier road (never seen them before they are only signposted with "sceinic lookout" so I would imagine not many would bother to drive a km to see them, I only did because I decided I wanted a break and a drink of water since it had been 120km since the last stop at Turangi for petrol [IMG] Finally got to Napier - this means only 280km to home This is the return home - on the map it is Napier - Hastings - Waipawa - Waipukurau - Dannevirke - Woodville - Pahiatua - Eketahuna - Masterton - Carterton - Greytown - Featherston and then over "the hill" and I'm home [IMG] Taken at another rest area. This is a what alot of this country looks like - rolling hill country with mountains in the background [/ [/ [IMG]http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/sv400073kh7.jpg/1/w1120.png[/IMG [IMG]http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/overallmapsy8.png/1/w640 The total mileage was 929km and it took me a total of 11.5 hours - 4 hours on Saturday and 7.5 hours on Sunday. Cost me $NZ63.00 approx and I used around 35 litres of petrol.

Looks alot alike. Yeah the area is mostly tussock grasses and it gets real cold. When I was riding through on Sunday I was contemplating putting another jersey on - I already had a thick shirt, thick jersey and jacket with thermals inner layer. From what I have seen of parts of Texas I thought it might.
